He has a $4+ cap hit and scored 6 goals last year and only 2 in the playoffs.

Let someone else over pay for his speed and fancy stats.

You mean Carl Hagelin and two draft picks (No. 59 and 179) to the Anaheim for Emerson Etem and the No. 41 pick in the draft wasn't a good return? Hagelin didn't set the world afire as a Duck and obviously benefitted tremendously from landing in Pittsburgh.

Did someone say it was a bad return?

I love Hagelin. He is a game changer. So good on the forecheck and PK.

I also understand the lack of production variable. With the addition of Reaves, it may not make sense to spend $5M who provide almost zero tangible offense.

Hagelin vs. Sheary debate for me would come down to the trade value of either player.

Sheary should have much higher trade value than hagelin.

Its really useless to talk about a guys paycheck who is under contract for 2 more years. Its a sunk costs. Unless you can find someone else who overvalues him. If the market is correctly pricing him their is nothing you can do with him.

That being said we need PK guys. It would be pretty tough to lose hagelin and bonino in the same year. PK is important. And we haven't added anyone who excels at that. For balancing out the roster I think I'd rather have hagelin than hornqvist. We have plenty of power play guys. Not very strong on the pk.

I love Hags but he has been a luxury at that price point. 4m seems to becoming the norm on this squad and the league in general. There will be a lockout no doubt thats how these owners work.
Front load contracts, no trade clauses shut it down for a year. Disgusting

Horny or hags gotta go, just business

The bottom wings on the roster, Kuhnhackl and Archibald, are also pk guys so they would still have the same number in the lineup and save well over 3M. It's something to consdier if they need the space.

Just throwing this out there...what if we can manage a trade for a 3rd line C who is ~$2M. Without thinking too hard, lets just say a Lowry, Faksa, Haula, Karlsson, etc...

Would you guys take an average 3rd C like that AND keep Hagelin/Hornqvist/Sheary/Maatta if it can be squeezed under the cap?

OR

Lose one of Hagelin/Hornqvist/Sheary/Maatta for an excellent 3rd C?

I'm really curious to see if ZAR and/or Sprong pan out. I know the current plan is to have them start in WBS, but if they stand out in camp it could completely change the Pens' course of action.

1st option because I believe some of those guys are just as good or better than Bonino, especially for the Pens style...also they're younger

EDIT: I should also add that we might not lose a current roster players too which is a bonus. I know some are going to say move Maatta but Maatta is only 22 and Maatta is needed right now IMO.

The Hagelin decision may come down to him versus Sheary. I would roll the dice with Sheary.

If thats the case, send his swedish ass packing!

I have feeling they will start out in WBS and then one will make the leap midseason when the injury bug is in full effect. and then the season will end with another stanley cup.

I'm personally over Maatta. I know there are basically two camps on him who are staunch in their perception, but I would LOVE if the Pens moved him out and got a good 3C.

I think Cole is more balanced dman than Maatta and will cost them around $4M to re-sign him.

I'm not sure who's available and I'm sure the Duchene idea is but a dream. Move Maatta for a 3C.

You're more than likely correct, but I just have this feeling(based on nothing lol) that Sprong is going to be difficult to keep out of the lineup.

I still maintain that Devin Shore from DAL is a diamond in the rough. He's put up impressive numbers as a 4C. While he still has to improve in some areas like FO% and translating his production into a 3C position, he's very young and more positives than negatives.

It's hard for me to imagine getting one of those guys for just picks though and we don't have much in prospects to offer. Otherwise sure.

I like Raffl, but how does this work to you? You mean he would replace Hagelin if they moved Hagelin for a 3c?

Agree, I don't see adding a wing. We've got 10 NHL caliber ones plus Spring and ZAR. And that's not even mentioning Rowney possibly moving to wing if Cullen comes back

He's actually a natural center, he moved to wing for the Flyers. Right now the Flyers have 16 NHL forwards (assuming Patrick makes the team) and need to clear some space.
